What is the church of Christ?

| In the Bible the word 'church' is only ever used in two ways: to refer to the whole church that Jesus built (Matt. 16: 18; Acts 20: 28), or to individual local congregations (Rom. 16: 16). It is made very clear that there is only one church mentioned in the Bible (Eph. 4: 4-6), and that God wants all believers to be one (I Cor. 1: 10).
Yet in the religious world today we see that this is not the case. There are hundreds of denominations in the world today, all teaching different things and practicing different worship, yet all claiming to follow Jesus. This is clearly not what God wanted! What then is to be done? |

| Eastern Shore church of Christ is a group of Christians who want to just be Christians and nothing else; just like we see described in the Bible. We follow the pattern of doctrine which is given in the Scriptures (Rom. 6: 17), and we strive to show the love of Christ in our lives. We follow the Bible, because we believe the Bible is God's Word and is the only perfect guide to living a fulfilling life on this earth and eternal life as Jesus promised in the next (II Tim. 3: 16-17). | ||||||||||

What can I expect at the church of Christ?

| You can expect a warm welcome! We are very happy to have visitors at any of our services - call to find out more information, or just turn up anytime! You will not be asked for money, or placed under any obligation at all.
You won't find people ranting and raving, or raucous music or any of the other things that people sometimes add to what God has said. What you will find is a simple, reverent but vibrant service which is intended to obey God's commands in worship and also to provide an edifying and uplifting experience for all who are present. At each worship service we sing praises to God (Col. 3: 16), offer prayers (I Tim. 2: 8) and read and teach from the Word of God (Acts 20: 7). On the first day of the week, Sunday, we partake of the Lord's Supper (Acts 20: 7) and the members of the church give a freewill offering to the Lord (I C or. 16: 2). We also provide the opportunity for any who have been studying the Word and want to become a part of the Lord's church to do so. The Bible tells us that when we have heard and believed the Word of God (Rom. 10: 17), we need to repent, that is, to turn away from our sins (Luke 13: 3, 5), and then we must confess Jesus before witnesses (Rom. 10: 10). When we have done this, God's Word tells us to be baptised by immersion for the remission of our sins (Acts 2: 38; 22: 16). When we have done this, the Lord adds us to His church (Acts 2: 47). Our sins are washed away, and our wonderful journey in Jesus Christ has begun! |
